This is why Pentatonix won the Sing Off.. they are ridic with the arrangements, Avi's bass is unhuman, Kevin's drum patterns are so complex they're mind boggling.. and the trio can just hold down pretty much EVERY range of vocal from low baritones to Mariah Sopranos..

And yes I understand I'm fanboying it right now.. but they are an amazing group and I am glad to have seen them perform live. If you ever get a chance.. check them out. They are innovation to accapella like Jabbawockeez is to Dance.

Here's a quick Mash-Up of one of my favorite songs from Empire of the Sun.. I really liked the dirty synths so I used those for the beat change.. the rest of the "Money to Blow" mix was just chopped and sampled to make the beat.. i threw in a few reverses just to change things up.. mainly because I couldn't think of a solid drum fill or I may revisit this later and try to create a build up to the tempo change.

Here's a quick remix I made for Jay-Z's freestyle song for he and Beyonce's newborn Baby Girl Blue Ivy.

I had this beat that I made in Ableton, reworked the drums a little and added the longer Snare with the sustain to add some dramatic pauses. I sampled Cameo's "Sparkle" and used it as the muted trumpet you hear in the background.

Originally I had a bass line in it.. but each riff I had just didn't seem to fit.. so I went without it for now.. if I add it later maybe I'll repost.

He writes with a flow to his words, almost how a lyricist does, and his play on words and storytelling in his songs are genius. New Music: Clara C & DJ AS 1

SoCal's own Clara Chung with her new music video for the "Camel Song". She's one of the more original artists, I've been following on youtube.. She doesn't cloud her sound with overweighted lyrics. I believe there's a way to be poetic, and a way to musical. Her melodies and arrangements provide a catchy upbeat tune that you can find yourself humming for days.

On top of her music, she has been choosing some very impressive directors for her videos, after her very successful "Heartstrings" video featuring Joseph Vincent, the "Camel Song" now features another well known YouTuber Ryan Higa. And just like "Heartstrings" she has this quirky interaction with her co-star in very artistic style scenes.

On another note, DJ AS 1 is representing United States turntablists competing on DMC's Online Championships. I've been a fan of his for sometime, with some of his Live Remix videos and scratch routines, every so often he posts some of his battle routines.. and this by far is one of his best routines to date.

The entire routine flows, its original, and its complex.. his scratches have always been very clean and his juggles have gotten very technical.. I especially like the Chilli Peppers section with that guitar loop. Super dope.

Chillin with the Best... (MLG Anaheim)

So earlier this week I was invited to cover the MLG (Major League Gaming) Pro Circuit Tournament in Anaheim this weekend. Where the Top Starcraft 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach players will be competiting for $2 Million+ in Cash/Prizes.

Who am I to say no to some Starcraft action? lol We were only able to stop in for Day 2 of 3 for the competition, but we were able to see some really great matchups.

So those who are unfamiliar with MLG, it is one of the world's largest gaming tournaments that tours the US, this is their 3rd stop in a 6 city tour. And if you're a huge Starcraft 2 fan like myself, you'll know some of the best players in the world was present.. Huk, MMA, Choya, Boxer, the entire Liquid Team and the Slayer Team from Korea.. wow.

Here is a short video on what the Tournament is about, and the kick off to the weekend introducing all the events to look for this weekend.

So the layout of the event is pretty much gamer overload, the room is divided into 3 sections.. the far right of the hall is ALL Call of Duty Black Ops. The middle of the hall is ALL Starcraft 2 and to the left is Halo: Reach.

It was clear to say, the majority of the crowd was there to see Starcraft 2.

Just so you can see a scale of how huge this tournament was.. here is a short panoramic view of the entire hall from right to left (Call of Duty > Starcraft 2 > Halo:Reach) so at any given moment, there could be some huge roar of the crowd from any of the games.. usually from Starcraft LOL

This was one of the highlights from yesterday's Starcraft 2 Events.. Team Liquid Jinro vs Choya.. in the first game of their series what looks to be an in control Choyo (Protoss) gets pwned by a defensive nuke taking out ALL of his back line including his Clossi, in a stunning upset for game 1.. but lets after that game it was pretty much downhill for Jinro, Choya took control of the match and took down one of the crowd favorites.

(above) The Starcraft 2 Main stage each player is in their own booths, away from the crowd, and the commentary for the audience.. as well as distractions from the audience.

(below) This is the open bracket section, each game had their respective section for it, this is where players not playing on the Main Feature stage play and advance through the tournament. This is the Halo: Reach Open Bracket.

KurtHugoSchneider is well known on YouTube for their original music works with Sam Tsui and they are notorious for their amazing mashups., and I'm not talking about these crappy medleys people post as mashups, the ones where they play a four chord progression on their guitar sing part of the verse, pause, then play another four chord progression with another verse from another song.. weak.

A true mashup IMHO is when you can seamlessly blend the two or more songs together and make it sound like it is one song. And this exactly what KurtHugoSchneider does with their mashups, they take the time and effort to rewrite the song so that it makes sense and flows like a single song.

Preview night has become its own day even though you can only be on the floor for 2 hours.. its MADNESS. I remember when you weren't able to buy anything, and only "Preview" hence.. One of my most anticipated panels every year.. is the Big Bang Theory Panel. Twilight, unfortunately has been gaining fans worldwide and it was obviously going to make its way into Comic Con because of its Pop Culture phenomena and even Thursdays has now been dubbed "Twilight Thursday" So I would be unfair to not put up a video about Twilight.. and what better way to kill two birds, the parody is by Attack of The Show's Kevin Pereria and Oliva Munn. AOTS is a big supporters of Comic Con and the attendees are their complete fan base.. AOTS has taken the geek culture and skyrocketed it into the mainstream media.

I've been a fan since the Tech TV Days, pre G4 when the show was called "The Screen Savers" with Leo Lapport and Kevin Rose (diggnation & teh Brok3n) and OMG.. Sumi Das remember her? (yowza) Once G4 bought out TechTV you could literally see the shift to a more Geek Pop Gaming Culture while keeping their Tech News in the mix. They are the forefront of the geek evolution.. soon we will take over the world with our Internet Memes and Viral Videos. mwhaha.

I used to look forward to going to the Lost Panel every year, it was always something

2 Years ago at the Last Panel for Lost, fans came through and filled Hall H (which is usually for Movie Previews/Panels) Lost was one of the first TV Shows to fill that Hall which shows the huge fan base this show had.

There were tons of exclusive videos being shown, from fan made videos to special Dharma videos.. this video was a Show Made Con Exclusive for the Panel.. it was the "In Memoriam" of all the characters that were "Lost" on the show. It was funny, poetic and at times sad.. especially re-watching Charlie's death. And you can hear from the crowd the reaction.

Probably one of my favorite Comic Con experiences of All Time. Enjoy.

XBox Lives super popular Mini Series The Guild is a show about a Guild playing "a Game" which currently doesn't have a name but is referred to as "The Game" and is rumored to be more popular than World of Warcraft BUT very very similar LOL..

This online sitcom follows the weird and nerdy antics that come with having an Online Guild and what happens when they meet, and form enemies IRL (in real life) and Online.

This video is the special video they brought to Comic Con last year, only those who went to the panel were able to see this exclusive video.. of course the entire cast is in the video along with a bunch of their friends.

The Guild will be having their Panel on Saturday at the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront.

4:00-5:00 The Guild Season 5: Convention Timez!— In their upcoming season five, the lauded web series breaks out from behind the computers and takes the cast on a fun-filled road trip to a fan convention. Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) and Felicia Day (The Guild) are the stars of this Online Musical..

Dr Horrible wants to join the Evil League of Evil run by Bad Horse.. but to gain membership into the league he must commit a heinous crime. Along the way to commit his crime his love interest from the Laundry store gets in the way and eventually begins to date his arch-nemesis Captain Hammer. Now full of vengeance, Dr Horrible is set to take down Captain Hammer and join the Evil League of Evil!

This 45-Minute 3 Act Web Musical is Brilliant! If you haven't seen it.. I suggest you do.. and join the California Brown Coats Society at this years Sing-Along. We did it 2 years ago and this year at WonderCon in San Francisco.. its super fun.

This song, is the first song in the Show called "Freeze Ray" its a fun little quirky song.. about how he'll use his freeze ray to stop the world for her. LOL

A term you may or may not know is Otaku. A Japanese slang word that essentially means "Geek" or "Nerd".. one who obsesses over hobbies. The Anime community has grown tremendously since I was in high school, and is now one of the biggest groups to represent at Comic Con. I'd say (don't quote my number its just a guess) about 45% of the Costumed Attendees are Anime based. So while you're oogling the Slave Leias and Superman's.. you'll miss the awesome costume details of:

or the wildly popular Akatsuki

My personal favorite is finding Final Fantasy Cosplayers.. amazing costume design.

These days there are tons of community groups locally and nationally that gather for events to meet each other, some who've only met on message boards or other social media websites and CosPlay (Costume Player) as groups.

Although many people view this as an extreme "Socially Awkward" lifestyle, the community is one of the most tight knit and very friendly subculture to embrace their "Otaku".

This video is from one of my favorite J-Drama shows Densha Otoku, which roughly translates "Train Man". Densha Otoko is a popular example of the "nice guy" class of Japanese geeks who wish to lead normal lives, but are too shy to find a girlfriend, or speak openly anywhere but online.

In the show, this lady gets harassed on a train by a drunk, and Yamada gets fed up and goes to her rescue. She thanks him by giving him tea cups from Hermes. He shares his experience on this message board and his friends on the board insist he ask her out on a date.. and he does. But being so inexperienced in the world of dating he constantly goes back to the message board to ask for advice.

Based off a true story, this was first a manga, then an 11 episode TV Show and eventually was a Full Length movie..

This song "Sekai wa sore wo ai to yobundaze" ("That's what the world Calls Love") is the ending credits to the show featuring the band Sambao Master.

Back when World of Warcraft hit its peak this web series started to gain in popularity.. it was a Gamer show known as.. Pure Pwnage. This Canadian born gamer known as the Pwnerer who is quite literally the best gamer ever.. especially in the RTS genere.. he, along with his friend FPS Doug are being followed by his brother Kyle in a "Office" style documentary about the day in a life of a pro gamer.

In one episode, he (just like millions of other players) gets sucked into the World of Warcraft.. and this song was born.

One of my favorite PS2 games was Katamari Damacy.. the king of the heaven's loses all the stars in the universe and you must collect junk in your world and offer them up to the king so he can make it a star.. LOL sounds weird.. but it was SUUUUUUPER addicting.. you basically just roll around this ball.. and as you run over stuff it collects it to the giant mass you are creating.. it starts as simple as a thumbtack.. and quickly progresses to rolling buildings LOL

If you played this game before.. props to you. It's a pretty low-key game that had a huge cult following.

This is my Thursday Comic Con "Interested" Panels... WTH!? Comic Con has grown sooooo much that even Thursdays are just packed to the brim of events and panels!

Every year as the schedule comes out, I like to go through their programming on the website and input the panels and events I am interested in, or just noting that its happening on my phone, this year my iPad. Usually Thursday is fairly quick, some small events here and there and the occasional big name doing a panel.. not this year.. not only is Twilight Break Dawn Part 1 going to start the Hall H line by 12 hours before the start of the day.. but panels like, Dexter, Psych, Game of Thrones, FOX Movie previews and Robert Rodriguez is going to be having their panels on Thursday.. wow.

Now I have a huge dilemma of deciding if I want to post up in Ballroom 20 all day long like I usually do on Saturdays.. I stopped going to Hall H only because to get in you'd have to wait for at least 2 panels before just to get in sometimes. And to me, its just not worth it for movie previews.

Anywho, this post probably doesn't belong here on djdwin.com.. BUT it will belong on my new blog that is being launched next week for Fox5 San Diego. So be on the lookout for my new Tech.Geek.News Blog Launching next week just in time for Comic Con!

One of my favorite bands I still have yet to see live.. I actually thought they were through and that my chance is lost.. but then this song came out and gave me hope.. I may be the oldest person there, but I will see them live someday.. I actually have their live dvd from the Electric Factory

And I still play it to this day haha.. It was the best I could have since I always missed them when they came around. LOL what can I say.. im a fanboy.

The song is typical Yellowcard Fashion, I kinda wanna hear the rest of the album and see if theres any "October Nights", "Breathe", "Lights and Sounds" type of songs.. this song reminds me of the last album with "Dear Bobby" and "Light Up the Sky"..

DJ Quik came through the studio and chilled with us the entire morning! If youre a child of the 90's Hip Hop and R&B days and from the west coast like me.. YOU KNOW, who this man is.. Not only from his songs, but collabs with Tupac, Dre, Snoop and all the other big names in the 90s and Early 2000s.. And if you dig in your Brain Vinyl crate you'd remember that he was part and producer of a group 2nd II None..

When I introduced myself to Quik, I told him "2nd II None was my shit back in the day" He pointed out that KK was also in the house with us. Well damn son. Now I HAD to get a pic with 2nd II None.

OMG! Does someone wanna build one with me? and Before Comic-Con too.. we can be Co-Op Testers! HAHA so sick!.

Five months ago, two college students got it into their heads to begin building a costume prop. Not just any costume prop, mind you – a costume prop to rule all other costume props and, in fact, the WORLD! Not really, but they did want to participate in the GenCon Indy 2011 costume contest and didn’t have any ideas for what to do!

So they came up with Portal! All I found as far as info on this is the Materials list to make it.. i guess its up to us to figure it out.. anyone wanna try and figure it out?

Here's the Material list:

Core:
4” diameter PVC pipe
3” diameter PVC pipe
2 4” PVC couplers
Lots o’ Cardstock (We managed to use about a 30”x24” sheet over the course of the gun)
About a gallon of Bondo + extra hardener (We blew through two quart containers and then gave up and bought a gallon. It’s still holding us)
Florists Foam (The largest we could find was about 3’x1’x4”, and it worked pretty well once we cut it in half and glued the halves together)
Superglue
Drywall Spackling
Gesso (a very bright white canvas primer)
Craploads of sandpaper, from grits 80-600. Trust us, you’ll need them.
Spraypaint: flat black, pure white, and clear coat gloss.
Plexiglass – amount unknown; we didn’t keep track because we had a near unlimited source.
Electrical Tape
1” glass lens
¼” black tubing
9 screws and nuts
20 gauge beading wire
dowel rod
Clear toilet plunger handle (preferably an adult sized one if you can find it – we used a child sized one ‘cause that’s all we could find, but there’s no room for error)
2 ½” diameter clear plastic tube
Packing foam
Painter’s tape
Plastic wrap

11 blue LEDs
11 orange LEDs
3 red LEDs
4.5v power supply (3 AA’s)

Switchfoot came by to bless our studio once again. So I figured I'd give the video side of the D7000 a go and threw on my 85mm Lens to see what kinda footage I could get.

The footage is a bit shakey since I had to hold the camera with no steadypod AND manually focus the entire time, it actually picked up alot of my slight movements and when I actually made a big move.. it is very apparent.

But the footage still looks fantastic. This is untreated and unedited, straight from the file itself. The sound won't match the quality of the video only because when shooting with a DSLR you want to record external audio and sync up later in post. This was more of a test run for future shoots.. but I think it came out well.. just imagine having 2 or 3 cameras for different angles, and proper audio recording.. OMG.. might have to invest. =P

My dear friend Andrea is getting married, and since I couldn't make it to Hawaii this year for the wedding, we tried several times to see if we can plan another trip before the wedding. Seattle also fell through so she had an idea to throw a Bridal Shower in the Bay. And i've been looking for another reason to go to the bay. And since I was one of a 2-3 guys invited I decided to take the weekend and head up.

Met up with my friend Ray (who is a limo driver, what better way to tour the city!) We had a few hours to kill so he took me for a little bit of sight seeing.. and took me to Twin Peaks with this amazing view of SF.

Afterwards he took me and his friend Don who was down from San Jose and has never been to SF, he took us to Ike's Place.. which part of my goal this weekend was to hit as many food joints on my list as possible.. and Ike's.. was number one. (if anyone knows me.. sandwiches are my weakness)

Had the Sanchez College Prep. It was Halal Chicken, BBQ and Cheddar. I actually didn't know they were Halal at Ike's. (Halal is to Middle eastern cuisine as Kosher is to Jewish Cuisine) I got it on toasted Sour Dough and a craft root beer. Its a 7 in my book, I'm a big deli style fan, so the hoagie style bun is cool but for it to hit 8-10 in my ranks.. its gotta be deli baby. Bomb ass sandwich from Ike's CHECK!

BTW.. this place is Man Vs Food Approved.

Later that night we met up with my good friend's Andrea and Maria at the Hong Kong Lounge on Geary, they had a nice little room with her friends at one table and another table dubbed the "Japanese" table which were her Family side. And as we already knew, I was the only guy invited LOL.

REAL Chinese Food. None of that Broccoli Beef junk. Scallops and Snow Peaks, Peking Duck, Garlic Lobster, Fried Pork, Crab Balls.. NOMZ

After dinner we headed out to Mark Hopkins Hotel in downtown San Francisco to the "Top of the Mark" which is like San Diego's "Top of the Hyatt" except much more fun.

Apparently the Giants won their game so we were able to see fireworks from AT&T park plus this amazing view of the city. It was just that extra cherry on top.

I gotta say.. the yuppies in downtown SF know how to have fun.. Getting down with the Black Eyed Peas!

And this old dude was tearing up the floor with his hottie young girlfriend.. or daughter?! Who cares he was gettin down on the floor son.

The late nighters! We stayed til they kicked us out of the club.. that's how we roll!

After seeing the downtown night life, and thinking 1 am wasn't late enough (lol).. I still wanted to head out somewhere, So Ray came and scooped us up and we did a late night run from San Fran to San Jose.. for another one of my food adventures.. all for.. La Victoria and their famous Orange Sauce.

An hour drive from San Francisco to San Jose all for this. I have had the sauce before so I already knew how it tasted. It was all about going to the original venue and trying it there.. The sauce was on point, BUT their burritos SUCK! Carne Asada was dry and stringy and the tortilla wasn't even put on the grill or even warmed up, so it was very doughy and felt like you were eating a taco bell burrito. Plus since La Vic's is near San Jose State (across the street) and a block away from the clubs and other late night food spots.. it was pretty packed full of drunks which was kind of annoying. Ah well.. Orange Sauce at La Vic's.. CHECK.

Late night adventuring still.. Ray was showing us throughout the city.. and we decided to go down the famous Lombard St. (famous for its 8 sharp one-way switchbacks it is dubbed the most crooked street in the world) So half way down it.. we decided to drive it backwards! HAHA. but we failed.

Next day met up with the Big Sisters again for some Dim Sum.. my first experience in SF (and I want more) with so many choices to choose from in SF, its always good to go by a recommendation. This one is Good Luck Dim Sum on Clement St (known as the "other" Chinatown). Dim Sum in SF Chinatown CHECK.

Also had a chance to visit (very briefly) Japantown.. and ZOMFG.. I wanna go back.. there were still some things I didn't get to check out.. AND there was a Tofu Festival going on in the square too! uugh.. next time! But we did find a booth that sold fresh Tai Yaki! no custard so I just went with Red Bean. And I picked up an Unagi Onigiri from the Nijiya market (they dont make that in SD)... Japanese Snacks in Japantown SF.. CHECK!

One of the spots I HAD to go to was Haight and Ashbury.. this strip has everything from Music, Art and Music.. And to a Graphic Designer who is a DJ.. a fucking candy store! There's so much history here and so much passion.

Had to stop by Stussy, True and Super7! Didn't buy anything.. just stopped on by.

OMG OMG.. its Amoeba music! 24,000sq feet of Music, Vinyl, video games and more!

While on Clement St, I noticed a spot that caught my Food-dar and I had to try it.. it was called Pizza Orgasimica.. their sign said.. "We never fake it" LOLz.. how can you not try it? So the group of us went out and gave it a go.. they even craft their own beer.. We had the Pesto Basil and whole garlic Pizza. delish!

We spotted this Pho spot.. so we decided to rep the west and pay it some dues! LOL WESTSIDE for Cali-Pho-Nia!

Ray took us out again for more late-night tourism! So we hit up every bridge, the Richmond, Bay Bridge and Golden Gate bridge.. I'm sure it looks better during the day.. but I'll take night time!

We were lucky to have a pretty decent clear view of the city from Treasure Island.. which by the way is a pretty creepy island late night HAHA we swore we were in the beginning of a zombie movie and that any time the zombies would come out of the wood work to chase us LOL

We checked out the view of the city from Coit Tower.. there was this statue outside of the tower and I teased as I asked "who is superman here?" The base said "Discoverer of America" so I figured it was Amerigo Vespusci, but apparently it was Christopher Coloumbus.. i actually found that interesting, since I swore Amerigo was the one who discovered the americas.. (history buffs correct me?)

Next morning one of the Roommates was making a lil bit of breakfast.. at first as we chatted it up it looked like he was making some eggs and a bagel.. but as he continued on.. it got a lot more "interesting" to say the least LOL.

He stacked the 2 eggs AFTER putting a different type of cheese on them and using a spinach dip spread on the bagel and then saucing it up with some Sirachi sauce.. whoa.. this was a total college food idea hahah.. and here I thought the french were healthier than us HAHA.

Yes, he is french. His name is Mattieu, and this, is his crazy ass sandwich. That was my favorite food bits of the entire trip LOL

So on my last day, I met up with some friends from San Diego who live up in SF now and we headed out to the Haight Street Music Festival.. and OMG.. it was amaze-balls. I said I wanted to experience music on Haight.. i just didn't think it would be one of the largest music street festivals in the west coast! Look at the sea of people!

Of course we went there to support Mae's roommate's band Le Vice.. here's about 10 minutes of their set..

Alas, the trip had to end.. I didn't get to see much else of the other bands playing the event since I had to run to the airport and catch my flight, but looking back, I did cover alot of what I wanted to see and do in the Bay and then some! I will definitely be back.. and probably often. I LOVE... LOOOOOVE San Francisco.

Hard to Be this ILL - Le Vice.

This past trip to the Bay Area I wanted aimed to explore some new foods as well as new music, I seriously didn't think I would leave there completely LOVING the food, and the people and especially... the Music.

On the first day of the trip stopped by my friend Mae's apartment and met a group of people chillin on the couch watching America's Got Talent.. little did I know who I just met..

The following night before we all went out to dinner, Mae was showing me some music videos of her roommate Sean's band, I thought it was going to be a rock band, then she told me it was a Jazzy band.. when I watched the videos I was pleasantly surprised that it was this Hip Hop Electro Indie band. And wondered why she didn't introduce me to them sooner! LOL

Instantly I felt this Flobots, Roots, Gym Class (old gym class NOT that bullshit now), and Fugees Feel to it.. and that hit me hard.. I love when bands get funky over some hip hop drums and a smooth sexy R&B vocal. Alex the lead singer has the singing chops of Lauryen Hill and Erykah Badu with the swag of MIA.. fack thats hot.

This was the first song Mae showed me.. and I was hella feelin' it. It gets you bouncing, it gets you hyped.. everything a good dance groove should do along side of some dope lines. It is definitely very hard to be that Ill.

The other song she showed me was "Find You". This song is deep, her voice carries through with the music chillin behind it, so you can hear and feel the lyrics. Even the Trick Daddy hook at the end gets a little bit of her steez.. this song is amazing. It reminds me Common's "Retrospect for Life", Kanye's "Heartless" or The Roots "You Got Me"

I am definitely a FAN. and a HUGE one at that.. I am going to do what I can to get them down here in San Diego to showoff what they got.. so be sure to look for them when they do make it down here.

Pacquiao vs Mosley (Unseen Footage)

Here's an interesting video I saw with a cool insight to the Manny Pacquiao / Shane Mosely fight.

We were in Vegas during the fight and saw that there was this divide between Pacquiao and Mosley fans, it could have gone either way by the support of all the fans on both sides. We weren't able to get tickets into the arena, but we did catch the fight at the Excalibur Closed Circuit event. And even there, it was a split crowd.

Once Mosley went down in the third the place erupted and after he turtled up and went all defensive, you could see the frustration in the fans.. "this fight sucks" "fight fight!" even on Pacquiao's side, this just isn't a fight you want to see.

I'm a Pacquiao fan of course, but don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a fight where he gets challenged, hell I wouldn't even mind a loss if it was a good fight. But it just seems as though people fight Pacquiao just to get that paycheck..

I dunno, thats just my 2 cents. Check out the video, it definitely is interesting. I would have loved to see Jamie Foxx's and LL Cool J's reactions too.. ah well.

PS. Shane's Wifey.. You're an idiot. She asked at the end "What Did Pacquiao Do in the Fight?" Umm.. He put him down in the 3rd Round.. LEGIT. Not that bitch move pushdown. So quit acting like Mosley didn't deserve to lose.

I was browsing through my food blog sites and noticed a list of 100 places to try in San Francisco all from this one food blogger.. And I thought to myself "Self. Can I even name 25 places?" I was able to ninja in the Shake Weight! LOL

It looks a bit simple, but there really is quite a bit going on.. from the custom paintings of Raoul, Shally and Chrissy (even a cameo of our News Director).. to the Bling'd out "Royal Wedding" 3D with super flares and even the shadow at the bottom just to sell it more haha..

I'm actually quite proud of the work done today for our coverage of the Royal Wedding..

I'm on a mission.. LOL

There are so many great talents on YouTube, and some have actually broken down the virtual wall and stepped out and started touring.. So I'm on a mission to see some of my favorite Subscriptions LIVE.. I've actually seen David Choi before at AJ Rafael's Charity Speaks show, but he didn't perform. So this was my time to see him live.. even with 2 Cancelled DJ gigs I thought it wasn't going to happen but in the end it did.

The show was a bit late for me (since I work at 3am) but the show was thankfully just a few walking blocks away from my apartment so how could I not go?

The line at Lestat's was impressive.

Opening act was Jane Lui - i've seen her before in some of the Kollab videos, and I dig her Jazzy Blues Swing style..

This is cool, she actually did a cover of one of David's songs.. LOL who covers a song by the act you're opening for.. I guess she does and it was pretty awesome.

Once David came on.. I was glad to see that he had a Double Bassist and a Drummer.. which is cool cause it always adds an energy to the music which make acoustic performances just slightly more interesting. I kinda wished Kina Grannis had a full band with her when she was here.. maybe next time =)

Just for fun and a tribute to his friend in Far East Movement he performed his cover of Rocketeer, even though the audience requested he do "Shed a Tear" a parody cover he did with Cheester See and Ryan Nigahaga..

During his performance he took a minute to TwitVid from stage from his iPad2 LOL I guess if you look hard enough you can see me and Dennis in the crowd LOL

We couldn't stay for the rest of his performance and for the meet and greet since Dennis had work early and I had work even earlier.. but it was a great show, they both are fantastic artists and I'm glad to come out and support good music.

Which by the way, I'll be debuting for the first time Las Vegas for another Pre-Fight party, the Fil-Am Fest on the Strip AND a Closed Circuit Viewing party.. So if you're in Vegas or planning on being in Vegas for the fight be sure to come by and chill with us as we watch our man bring home another W!

It all starts a week before at Wet Willies Downtown San Diego April 30th, 2011

Man vs Intern.. Battle Ice Cream

Yet again I am back on TV.. this time taking on a Food Challenge.. There was supposed to be 3 of us but we couldn't rally a third so we decided to go head to head, me vs the intern LOL

She's so tiny, it was almost unfair.. BUT.. she did actually have 1 less cup than I did.

The challenge was: Eat as many cups of ice cream in 1 Hour.

The actual story: We had Chef Steve from TwoScoops come in and showcase these portable granite slab counters so you can make you're own "Cold Stone" style ice cream.. so our producer thought we should have an ice cream contest.

After the first live shot.. we started our challenge.. by the time this second live shot happened, we had only had about 2 of our cups, when everyone in the newsroom wanted some ice cream, so the challenge supply ran pretty low.. but we were able to get our 3rd cups, so by the time you see this live shot which was about a half hour later.. we had already started our 3rd, which does seem kinda slow but with the amount of ice cream left, we "wanted" to say we did about 5-6 cups just in case anyone was trying to do the math in their heads haha.. it didn't matter anyway LOL

We told Ali that we ate 7-8 and she had the most shocked face because she didnt think a lil thing like Rachel could put down that many haha.. then we told her we were joking and thats why she called us out on air.

In the end we put down 7 Cups of Ice Cream, 3 for Rachel and 4 for me, and since they werent coming back to us, we called it cause we were full LOL plus our producer pulled some other vanilla ice cream in the freezer for us to use and I think it was bad.. cause it was SOUR! bleh.

Good times. I don't recommend eating 4 cups of Ice Cream early in the morning LOL

For those who don't know Ben Deignan he's an Atlanta based YouTuber who's been making jazzy covers of songs like Maroon 5, Drake and even Bell Biv Devoe.. one of the first covers i saw him do and instantly added him to my subscription was his cover of Stronger by Kanye West

Looking at the date of this.. holy shards.. 2007! 4 Years sub fan here! LOL (told ya i watch alot of youtube)

He's legit, he takes covers and makes it his own. Something other YouTubers should start doing. Either post original music. Or at least give us something creative with the song you are covering. You are, to say the least, a musician.

I watch alot of YouTube, everyone kinda knows it LOL But I am addicted to watching covers of songs that are better than the original or just a nice spin on it at least.. and I'm kind of a snob about it cause I'm always looking for people with good production value in their videos as well as great musical sense in their covers.

Jake here, takes one of KeSha's terrible songs and actually gives it a makeover, similar to the Pop go Punk CDs from back in the day.. My favorite section is when he does the key change to "You've got that glitter on your eyes.." Its got that classic Pop Punk addicting riff that actually works well with this song..

I believe he does all his own music, vocals, and video production, and for that he gets my seal of approval. Watch his other stuff its pretty good.

Yes.. it's a very pop punk-ish album.. I actually have a really big soft spot and mildly addicted taste to the high energy and catchy riffs pop punk albums provide LOL.. Yes, it sounds like most other bands, yes, I'm sure they'll probably make their way to MTV sometime, and NO, you are not gay if you listen to it. That's just elitist bullshit because their shitty little no name bands won't get any recognition.. waah.

Their first single "So Obvious" screams of classic pop punk style, from the quiet first verse intro, to the big drum hit to chorus "BOOM! ...This is our night, look in your eyes..." and even the pop punk interlude no instruments for 8 bars then straight into the chorus with a key change.. LOL yes its cookie cutter Pop Punk.. and for some reason.. i flippin' LOVE it. So sue me.

Working in TV, there are times when I get a little face time on TV.. either it be on our Weekly Dance Party Friday like this week's DPF "Singing in the Rain" The Glee Version:

I was told about this show the day before from our Producer, at first she wanted me to fake it, and since it was a good chance of rain, I told her if it were to rain and we weren't going to move the segment inside I wasnt going to risk bringing the turntables.. AND since she asked me to fake it, I didnt want to have to lug in a pair of turntables, mixer and a speaker.. to fake it. LOL

So I opted for the small setup, The VCI-300 was perfect cause all I had to bring was the VCI and the speaker along with my DJ Bag. Then, just minutes before we went live, they told me NO LYRICS. haha.. frack! So I ended up just playing 16 bar loops of electro songs and dropping sample loops on top.. then mixed into another sampled loop.. ah well, I was just there for looks anyway..

I guess not bad for my debut FOX5 Appearance and it probaby wont be the last.. just hopefully I don't get interviewed like my first time HAHA

HOW TO: What is Love?

Dance.. Party... Friday.

As usual we have our Dance parties on air every Friday on FOX5.. this time around the selected song... What is Love by Haddaway, as made famous by Saturday Night Live's sketch about two brothers who spent a Night at the Roxbury.

Usually I make a Green Screen still of an open room or scene themed to the song, But this time I wanted to make things a bit more visually interesting, same result just giving it more life. So I threw my finished Photoshop file into AfterEffects and created some faux lights to simulate a dance club.

First the photoshop:

The background itself was of some night club (dont know where) I just colorized it and oversaturated the colors to give it some vibrance.

Just like my Weekend At Bernie's green screen, I added Will Farrell and Chris Katan's characters in.. those were the only full bodies i found online, decent enough to use, and they had their knees and below cut off, so i put them behind the pillars to hide them.. they were in the dark a bit so I created those light beams pointing at them, using a sampled purple from the scene and blended it via Color Dodge and adjusted opacity.

The "A Night at the Roxbury" sign in the middle is actually the logo itself i found online, I doubled up the layers (one on top of the other) on the top layer i added an inner glow sampled with the purple and blues in the scene,

the bottom i added a drop shadow to pull it out like its mounted on the back lighting behind it. Added some 105mm lens flares at different opacities and shapes for the "sparkle" and added a white light sweep through the middle and blended it.. (i think it was lighten)

The shadow below is very simple to do.. just apple-click or ALT-Click the logo thumbnail it'll select the outline of the logo, then fill it in black. Deselect, drop it down and use the perspective transform and lay it out on the floor. Add a gaussian blur, drop the opacity a little and bam, custom shadow. The floor actually wasn't lit so the shadow got lost in the darkness, so to bring it out i added, two more lights, sampled from the purple one that was already there.

Once the photoshop was done.. I brought it into AfterEffects and added some moving light beams tinted different colors as well as a few 105mm lens flares looping in and out pulsating opacities and added too area lights to flash the scene some pretty colors.

I admit the movement of the lights could have been a bit smoother, but when you have a show to do on top of work like this, I had to start the render soon, just so this can make it into the system. Plus Rendering at the same time as working in photoshop and other various programs open, does take a huge toll on the virtual memory.

A Virtual Billionaires Insanity

Paul Dateh is one of my subscriptions that I found because he produces his music via Ableton, but recently he started doing these shorts called "Violince" which are short, quirky videos all narrated by violins. This one is just a great mash-up using Bruno Mar's "Billionaire" and Jamariquoi's "Virtual Insanity"

It does take a while before he gets to the mash-up but when he does, he does a great job blending the two verses..

LA > Kina > Conan > Men vs Food

Ryan was able to get a few tickets to Conan O'Brian so we made a mini LA Trip out of it.

On the way up to the Warner Brothers lot we hit up Melrose to check out a few shopping spots.. Ryan wanted to make a stop at TokiDoki LA, but as soon as we parked, I noticed this girl who looked remarkably like Kina Grannis.. turns out.. it WAS Kina Grannis! She remembered us, and wanted to know what we were doing in LA.. we chatted for a sec and off we went.

TokiDoki LA... Not much in here i was interested in.. so i visited their neighbors..

Today's morning show was one for the record books.. in my 7+ year Career in TV and within the first 3 months at FOX5.. I thought nothing could top the surreal day with:

Laurie Ann Gibson (Lady gaga, Diddy's Choreographer) teaching the half dressed Thunder from down under dudes, with Raoul in a Cowboy costume doing the choreography for "Monster".. that still goes down as one of the "Most Surreal Fun"

Today we had the infamous and original Thugs.. BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY! The excitement was way to hard for me to contain.. I was re-living my teenage years.. well with the exception of the new song they performed "I Tried ft Akon" everything else brought me back!

Just like a fanboy.. the first thing i said when i met them... "Art of war was my shit back in the day" to which they responded.. "Thats whattsup big homie" Most of the people there didn't know any other songs from their discography except "1st of da month" or "Crossroads".. but its cool, when taking suggestions on what song to do for their next hit, I suggested "For the Luv of Money" since "Mo Murder", "Redrum" , "Retalliation" or "Shoot em up" wouldn't fly on TV LOL in the end we got "These R the Dayz of our Livez" (solid choice Bone Thugs LOL)

Jagger and Christi from Magic 92.5 was live from our backlot as well and decided to get in on the Bone Thugs Action!

And since it was Thursday it was BE OUR GUEST day and through sheer coincidence we had Bar-B-Que from Kaminski's and it was pretty flippin decent.. I was able to eat the ribs right off the bone without a fork.. now thats good bbq.

Another special guest stopped by Miss Arianna Asfar (Miss California 2010) and oh mah gawd.. isn't she lovely?

Later in the show we had another special guest come through.. (The guy in the glasses I'm not quite sure who he was) because I was blown away knowing that the man to the right is one of the Co-founders of Motown Records.. OH WHAT THE F?!?!?! As a DJ and a lover of Motown Records, this man is a God. Mr Moore thank you for what you have done in music.

Another thing to note is the lady in the picture is Snoop Dog's mom.. seriously.. its her.. I think were trying to see if we can get Snoop on the show now.. Oh man.. i can only imagine!

This is the amazing special guest line up we had today on our show.. I can say in the 7 years i've been doing this, I've been starstruck meeting some celebs.. but today goes down as one of the most fun and most memorable.

And to answer my friend Nard about if I love my job here.. HELL YES. of All the shows I ever did at San Diego 6.. nothing was ever THIS fun.

Couple of weeks ago we went to Anaheim for a YouTube Charity Event "Music Speaks"

I did shoot some of the performances from Music Speaks, but didn't make a VLOG for it..(don't think i will either)

Anywho, while buying tickets to that event.. we saw posters for Fiji.. and decided that since we'll be up in Pasadena that same weekend for Designer Con (VLOG coming soon) we were going to just head down to Anaheim again for the Fiji Concert.

Let's just say this was an AMAZING concert, of all the Reggae concerts we've gone too.. this had to be the biggest and wildest..

They had a rotating stage, but since they had a retard for a stage operator, we got more of their backside than anything.. but still the vibe and energy there was nuts..

This is Fiji's Opening 2 songs.. "Smoking Session" right into "Naughty Girl" with some highlights of the entire show which was about 4.5 hours long x_X

If you ever get a chance to see this man live.. go see him.. it's an amazing experience.. Plus special guest J-Boog was doing his thing.. til the venue shut them down for going over their time limit..

So it looks like were gonna have to wait for another J-Boog concert to come thru..

Got to meet one of our other Designers today, she originally showed me the photoshop she was working on...

From here it looked like a 3D Model, and I was already super impressed by the level of detail in the model.. just as I asked her if it was created in Cinema4D, she corrected me and said it was not done in 3D, but shot as a photo.. she pointed out this piece in the back of her office...

Yes... she created it ALL from paper, the entire thing wasn't glued down because she wanted to have more control of it, even though the slightest breath could ruin the entire thing. I was already impressed by the level of detail when I "thought" it was 3D.. just imagine how overwhelmingly AWESOME it was to see this amount of detail.. fan-tas-tic!

I haven't met many designers that take this kind of time to create something like this, and after speaking with her I can see that she has a very creative mind.. she sees things in such an open and free view and it pays off in her work. Julie (another designer here) brought in some of her AfterEffects Projects to check out her compositions, and even those i was super impressed.

This inspires me to think more outside of the box, now if I can only have a good idea... LOL

AHHHHHHHH! Been on this rush since getting the new job, with training on the systems over at Fox5, I still had a shit ton of Freelance work to get done.. this Pilates Studio Website I'm designing as well all the print materials AND studio decals and graphics for the studio.. I'm still ripping out flyers for Red Circle for this Saturday, Industry Ladies Night (above) and soon I have to get with our models to do the shoot for my Halloween Party Flyer at Red Circle (coming soon)...

This was easier when I was part-time HAHA.. I'm actually enjoying all the work.. its just non-stop design for me at the moment.. after this all calms down.. I think we might have to take a break from each other Photoshop... but dont worry.. I still love you...

Missed ISA Show

So a couple of weeks ago, we drove up to Cerritos in hopes of getting tickets for Wong Fu's and Far East Movements "International Secret Agent" Concert. This concert is a showcase for the asian community gathering some of youtube's most respected artists in music and dance.

Their website SAID NOTHING that it was sold out.. I Even follow them on Twitter and Facebook NONE of which said sold out.. the only thins that hinted it was sold out was the website not able to find tickets for us.. My recommendation ISA Web Team... PUT UP A BANNER SAYING ITS SOLD OUT!!!!!

Sigh.. i guess next year I'll have to jump on those tickets faster.. this show looked amazing too.

BTW, on the way to our car we actually got to meet Victor Kim from Quest Crew, he was just getting to the venue, Quest Crew was one of the special guests... and again.. I was sad cause we would have loved to see them live.

So the wonderfully amazing Kina Grannis stopped by our studio today.. I kinda fanboy'd out on her.. asking her questions about her tour and Why Judy didn't get with Phil in the FunEmployed Series LOL But she was sooo nice, and if you haven't had a chance to hear this brilliant singer, check out her youtube channel and subscribe.. She's starting her tour in 2 days.. and one stop is here in San Diego's Anthology, its a venue i've wanted to check out since they opened and so far only like 2 bands not including Kina, were enticing enough to make me think twice about going.. but Kina's show is one I want to see, especially after seeing how well her Springtime tour went..

LOL.. Like I said.. i Fanboy'd out.. It's the name of her first single.. on Stairwells.

Found out last week that Hopie Spitshard is going to be at this years FilAm Fest!

I love Hopie, she's raw, she's dope..she's hot (=P) and this remix sounds like old school Masta Ace, "Sittin on Chrome" or "INC Ride" type of joint. I can't wait to see her live!

BUT, none-the-less, I am pretty much going to see Her perform, and I also heard through the grapevine that AJ Rafael is going to be performing as well..

and since we missed his epic performance at ISA:LA this passed weekend.. hopefully he brings special guests again..

I'm a fan of Hot Chip, but I had not seen their videos til recently.. and I must say next to Ok Go's videos these have GOT to be some of the most creative and original videos I've seen.

Take their video for "I Feel Better" This video starts off mocking boy bands, but completely takes a turn for the surreal.. without ruining how I reacted to the video.. watch it.. and after you have continue reading..

Now that you watched it.. did it leave you wondering? Like what the fuck did I just see? haha me too. I watched the video for months, just thinking it was just a bizarre video, like on par with the weirdness of Soundgarden's "Blackhole Sun" video.. but this just left me thinking, what drove them to think this up? What made them think.. "Well shit, this seems like a great idea.."

It wasn't until last night when I showed the video to Ryan, that we just figured, haha funny video right? He sends me this link to a blog that explains the video..

It is directed by Peter Serafinowicz, the Brit who is the voice of Darth Maul and the creator of Look Around You (he also played a small role on Spaced). The thing, without explanation, is just awesome, and thoroughly hilarious, mostly because of the inspired absurdity, pointless and ridiculous violence, and the mischievous facial expressions of the bald guy. I also especially like a detail that skims by too quickly at the opening -- one guy is named "Kyng" and another "Mar'Vaine." What follows may be over-reading but I thought I would throw it out there anyway. Forgive me for the fact that my references are 10 years old. Someone who knows music better than I will be able to give better examples, I am sure.

I think the video is about how the sexy overproduced musical acts such as the Backstreet-Boys-style group that opens are just the public face of music created by sickly-skinny nerdy bald Moby-looking white dudes. Fans would be horrified if they were confronted with this uncool source, and indeed one of the best parts of the video are the horrified looks of the fans, confronted by this unglamorous badly-lit weirdo at 1:09 and 1:29 -- in fact I would read the looks as disappointed more than anything else. The singers react confidently, thinking that cool will carry them but they are each destroyed in turn, after being mocked for their meaningless gestures -- and it is significant that they are taken down by energy that comes pouring from the mouth, like singing -- this is where the music comes from, and part of the surprise of the moment is not just the vomited blue energy so much as the sound effect added: most music videos do not add sound, even sound effects, over the original song (since the video is just supposed to showcase the song), but this one does. The bald guy has the power to create sound where we expect none. He is the source they cannot stand against. Each guy in the band tries to support themselves by preening for the audience, but they are merely an effect and not a source and cannot save them. It is wonderful that they never break character and the screams of the audience when one is killed are funny because they are followed by everyone forgetting and being freshly shocked at the next kill, rather than running or freaking out. These are the fickle fans of the boy band.

After the singers are annihilated there is a weird moment of respectful silence as we move into the next bit -- the revenge of the nerds fantasy is followed by the contradictory fantasy of the nerd JOINING the group, becoming cool like them, wearing matching outfits and dancing with them, and being adored by screaming fans. (The bald guy's head movements at 2:38 are particularly great). The video reaches new heights as THIS is also revealed to be the last sin: like the boy band's preening, the bald guy's preening for the audience also ushers in revenge as the white nerdy guy is confronted by HIS source -- this disembodied black head. Just as Sexy Overproduced Bands live off the musical work of Skinny Bald White Dudes, so the Skinny Bald White Dudes live off the work of African musicians -- look at the black spirituals incorporated into Moby Songs or the Afro-pop influenced Vampire Weekend. Hot Chip themselves, the nerdy guys who appear in the crowd at the end and are destroyed by red lasers even as the skinny bald guy escapes on stage, count Prince and Stevie Wonder as influences. One of their most famous songs includes the lyrics "I'm like Stevie Wonder but I can see things," which is maybe one reason why the disembodied head at the end shoots lasers out of his eyes, rather than spew the same electric blue vomit as his opponent.

At the end of the Hot Chip Video, it is this big black head, the African musical source, that gets the last laugh, destroying the Backstreet Boys style front band, the nerdy members of Hot Chip themselves, the fans, and the sign with the name of the band. The whole video is about the revenge of sources on the people that profit from them.
