VLOG#10 - Fiji @ Throw da Shaka Tour
Couple of weeks ago we went to Anaheim for a YouTube Charity Event "Music Speaks"
Here's Passion and Lee-Jay's performance from that show:
Passion & Lee-Jay @ Music Speaks 2010
I did shoot some of the performances from Music Speaks, but didn't make a VLOG for it..(don't think i will either)
Anywho, while buying tickets to that event.. we saw posters for Fiji.. and decided that since we'll be up in Pasadena that same weekend for Designer Con (VLOG coming soon) we were going to just head down to Anaheim again for the Fiji Concert.
Let's just say this was an AMAZING concert, of all the Reggae concerts we've gone too.. this had to be the biggest and wildest..
They had a rotating stage, but since they had a retard for a stage operator, we got more of their backside than anything.. but still the vibe and energy there was nuts..
This is Fiji's Opening 2 songs.. "Smoking Session" right into "Naughty Girl" with some highlights of the entire show which was about 4.5 hours long x_X
If you ever get a chance to see this man live.. go see him.. it's an amazing experience.. Plus special guest J-Boog was doing his thing.. til the venue shut them down for going over their time limit..
So it looks like were gonna have to wait for another J-Boog concert to come thru..

Chargers Home Opener
We went to our 2nd Home Opener.. this year its against the Ravens.. last year against the Panthers.. BOTH games losing in the last 20 seconds... Last year they stung us.. this year we shot ourselves in the foot.
Maybe we should stop going to home openers and to other games instead? LOL
Either way, the crowd was fantastic 66,000+ in attendance, and the homies took over E3 again for some tailgating..
San Diego Representing.

E3.. the spot.

Fred with his "What chu know bout Patron and Kalamanci?"

Here's a short walkthrough around E3.
And at every home game the guys get together for a pre-game ritual:
Definitely, good times.. no matter how the outcome of the game.
Our VIEW.. from View.. lol.

Ravens 31 - Chargers 26. Its only week 2.. we got a whole season ahead. Next game were looking at attending is the Broncos.
At least this week in Fantasy Football I've won all my matchups and currently in Top 3 in all of them.. at least my season is looking alright. LOL

Melrose Place Launch Party
Was hired to Spin for the CW for the Melrose Place Launch Party at the Hard Rock Hotel's Float Bar on the roof of hotel.. I gladly accepted and have been gearing up for the last 3 weeks for it.
Before the event, we stopped by Old Spagetti Factory for some grub.. Managers Special with Mizitura and Marinara.. yum.

Getting down with some Top 40 and the Electro..

Mary Murphy from "So You Think You Can Dance" was there with Ruben.. she even did her scream.. LOL

The place was packed.. don't know how the bar got any business with Beer prices that high.. holy crap. $9 for a Hef? pssshh..

Justin, Steph, Juyrel and Karla.

The Girls.. and Dennis and Jeff in the VIP Cabana

DJ Julz, Cha, Noriza and my bro Edroc stopped by..

Jenny was hungry.. and Quan was... umm?

It was a really fun night.. I ended up spinning for about 3 hours since there were people at the pool when we setup.. i just gave them a lil background music, right into the show.. i was also asked to come back to spin again in the future.. I would love to spin there on a regular basis.. woo hoo!

Edroc's BDay Pt 1 @ 923
Mindzalike Wed's at 923 and since tonight fell on Edric's actual birthday they had a celebration for him at the bar..

Red Velvet Cake!

Ed/Matt + Bottle Service.

Caught up with an old classmate and DJ from back in Junior High School DJ Rampage.. still doing this thing and doing it big. Playtime Attractions represent!

Damn makes me feel flippin old thinking about how long ago we started DJing, Elroy (Rampage) started in Junior High and we started not to soon after that.. in the house tonight was a name I haven't heard of since back in the high school days.. DJ Foreskin was in the building (no pic) but I caught up with him and he remembers the last time we saw each other.. it was at a house party in Southside, it was named "BootyBall" I remember cause the flyer was green and inside each of the letters were pics of booty LOL..
Anywho we (the djs) were stationed in the kitchen and it was blocked off i the rear by a filing cabinet and on the side of us with a desk.. we DJed on the counter and DJ Foreskin was up first. The sink was next to us filled with orange juice and various liquors.. so we doubled up as bartenders/DJs for the night.. people would give us $5 and with that we would grab a red cup.. fill it 3/4 with juice and 1/4 anything else.. i was doing pretty much the opposite.. and people were so drunk they didnt care.
DJs were the only ones allowed in the booth at the time.. and there were the 3 of us for now.. one dude ended up in there and actually doing a line of coke on my chrome plate of my turntable.. hahah wtf?! When the "bouncers" or muscle of the party came in, they noticed that he didnt belong, and stated "if youre not a DJ you gotta get out" the dude was like "nah nah.. im with my homeboy" and put his arm around me.. i tried to tell him he could just chill out there and i'll catch up with him later.. but he started to get pissed like i betrayed him.. and when the bouncers tried to pull him out of the kitchen, he reached behind his back and grabbed his gun, the bouncers immediately grabbed his arm, and the dude shot the ceiling.. not knowing where to run to since we were blocked off all of us immediately dropped to the floor and clung to each other.. and im almost positive I screamed like a girl.. as soon as it was all said and done.. Jimmy (DJ Foreskin) hopped up.. unplugged his headphones and said.. "see ya".. and literrally that was the last time I saw him, up until tonight LOL.. which was at least 15 years ago.. (1995, math?)
From what I heard after they dragged him out is they beat his ass in front of the driveway.. but I cant confirm that.. but the bouncer said I didnt have to worry anymore. Normally I would have left after that.. but they were borrowing one of our Cerwin Vega Speakers, so i had to stay to the end to get those bad boys safely home LOL.. I also remember during clean up all the knocked out bodies on couches floors.. there was even a HUGE blood stain on the wall where some dudes head was getting slammed into for talking trash about southside.. lol.. madness..
That was probably one of the worst experiences of my DJ years to this day.. and probably one of the craziest situations i've ever been in.. its funny how we can look back on it now and laugh.. but i wasn't laughing back then.
Good times... (or not.. lol)

CityFest 2009
(Event Date: 08-09-09)
One of my favorite things about living in the Mid-City area, is the amount of Street Fairs. Its always a good time of just going out, listening to some music, and great food.. Just how weekends are supposed to be.
This year's CityFest was packed, one main stage for a very eclectic range of artists, and 2 blocks worth of Food Vendors.. there was a Filipino food vendor, and I heard a lady ask for Lumpia as "Lump-Ya" lol..

We saw on the lineup that Pau Hana was playing a few hours later, so we left and came back to what was one of the most fun I've ever had at a Reggae show.. Pau Hana had the entire crowd skanking.. sooo much fun.

Can't wait to see them again!

Venue Check..
Got a chance to check out the Hard Rock Hotel's "Float".. This is where we will be having our SD6 & Channel 933 VIP Party for Melrose Place. I'll be the DJ for the VIP Party from 8-10pm.. I'm actually very excited for this gig never done a Roof Top Bar before, let alone one as sexy at this venue..

Promotions was there as well, to shoot the Commercial for the party..
This is where I will be posted up for the night.. I might add.. their setup is "Tow up" LOL but its got the basics, 1200s, 900 and Serato..

The infamous Ruben of course is gearing up for the party!

Sonik from Channel 933 (formerly now) will also be guest hosting (I believe?)

Taste of North Park
(Event from: June 28, 2009)
Finally got around to posting the pictures from Taste of North Park.. this was a really fun day! One of the perks of living in North Park is the street fairs.. there are so many and literally walking distance from our apartment.. just like this festival its literally on our street LOL.
DeMille's had a frackin feast! This one spot alone almost ended us..
Blind Lady Ale house with Green Flash on sample.. I like it.. everyone else thinks its too hoppy.
The fellas striking a pose.
Check out the photo stream from the entire day here: TASTE OF NORTH PARK

The Block Party (July 4th)
(Event Date: July 3rd, 2009)
My brother was one of the main DJs for the Block Party @ House of Blues during the 4th of July weekend, so we decided to roll out for a very eventful night downtown..
We started things off at AC Lounge for the Eye Opener shot.. then it was off to downtown.

We got there a bit early so we did a pre-drank part 2 at Bar 923.. $5 Mini Pitchers.. bam!

At House of Blues I always run into people from waaaaay back speaking of which my boy Mike (DJ Pivotik) was there, its always good times seeing him around, its like back in the day during the EOC / Eargasim days LOL.

Lets just say HOB was iiiiiinsane..

And at the stroke of midnight my brother (DJ Edroc) went up.. the lights went out.. hundreds of glowsticks hit the crowd.. beach balls.. and some old school Rave jams..
Here's a video someone posted from the stage.. you can see the madness and the crowd going ape shit.. if you look really carefully you can actually see us right there in the middle LOL
After my brothers set, we decided to take off and hit NuNu's for Angie's going away shindig..
This is SD6's spot for drinks.. and of course we Mob it up there LOL..

Angie's going to LA.. now who do I argue with at work?

Fuckin Jimmy!.. He came out to party! Awww snap!

Kippers Last SD Gig
We headed out to AC Lounge tonight to visit Kipper and watch his last San Diego Gig before he moves back to North Carolina.. Kipper is one of the most popular and well known DJs in the North Park & College Area..
A few years back Rob invited us to Blue Foot to watch him spin, they're old friends from college so he wanted us to check him out, when I got there I wasn't expecting to hear anything great, but I was just blown away, Kipper has a fantastic taste in music and he can blend genres like no one i've heard done so smoothly. Easily moving from Alternative Dance Rock, Hip Hop, Electro, 80s etc.. he was just that good.
Since Brett and Rob are friends with him, I've gotten to know him these past few years, and he is one cool dude, fucking hilarious, pop culture savy (he hosts Trivia Night at the Whistle Stop) we've geeked out often on Movies and Music, and he always wins by landslides.. he is a genuine good guy and its a shame he has to move back to North Carolina..
So needless to say, whenever anyone would text or call saying Kipper is spinnin at so and so.. we usually were there. So I had to pay my respects and visit our buddy.
I brought my Cam along, to snap some shots, this chick just stops me and asks me to take her photo.. it was dark so I did.. hahah.. heres her mug. What am I.. some event photog? psssh..
Kipper showing you how Buff DJs spin..
Saying his Farewells before he ends his set..
Kipper was in my opinion one of the best in North Park, a true DJ, and a great friend, I hope someday I'll be able to rock a set with him.. here's to Kipper.. Cheers!
