Jayne is such a big nerd over Twilight.. and i'm just a tag along fan boy of it.. seriously we bought Twilight before comic con, then the rest after con, Jayne breezed through them, but I literally finished the book tonight.. i've been catching up with my TV shows, busy with sweeps, reading watchmen again, and busy with ableton that I didn't know how i could finish it, but listen to the audiobook at work while I worked LOL..
Thanks to Stephanie and someone who forfeited their tickets I got a pair of passes to an advanced screening of Twilight! LOL. I did a bit of over time this week for Elex's sweeps piece that I was able to take off 2 hours early from work to get in line for this 3 hours early.. >_<>
I stood in line for about 3 hours, after work Jayne finally made it.. she had to go home and get her car from the shop and then meet up.. which meant she drove from mission valley in 5pm rush hour traffic to chula vista then up to downtown to hopefully make it before 6pm when they start letting us in.. i'm glad she made it.. i would have watched the movie without her if she didnt LOL.. hell no, i'm not standing in line for 3 hours and walking away.. shiiiiiiii.
Here is the line in front of us.. not too bad eh?
San Diego 6, 91X, and Borders sponsored the event. There wasnt many goodies, and not alot of fans showed up in costume, just this one girl who dressed as Bella at her wedding and another girl who dressed as Bella when she becomes a vampire. In my opinion, Harry Potter fans, shit even the Star Wars fans are more intense.. But I give it the 2nd movie for every Twilight fan to come out of the woodwork. Its still new, but i'm sure it would grow to that level some day, its quickly getting up there right now..
After all the usual promotion for all of us, we saw the trailer for Push and if you havent seen it yet.. its like a total Heroes rip off. I may still watch it.. but its got Dakota Fanning, and the dude who plays the flamer in Fantastic Four.. eh.. I've seen the trailer once before at work.. and after seeing it again.. im deeming it a renter.
The row we sat in had 4 seats.. after we sat 2 other girls sat next to us.. which would mean i was in the middle of jayne and some random girl.. girls since there were 2 to my right.. i turned to her and asked.. "Youre going to scream when Edward first appears right?" she looked at me somewhat confused and with great excitement when i said "Edward" and she said "Uhh.. hell yes.." So i stood up and switched places with Jayne.. i dont need to be deaf in both ears LOL. I told her no offense, I just would like to keep my hearing. She laughed and thought it was funny.
So as usual when the lights dimmed, all the girls screamed.. it has begun.
Here are my honest opinions about the movie...
If you've read the books.. this movie is fucking fantastic. They stay very true to the book, but obviously for time they had to omit some information and vital points. Like the 20 questions Bella asks Edward on the ride home from Port Angeles, theres alot of backstory there that they didnt give, its kind of where they set the rules on why vampires can live among them, live in the mask of the sun, have reflections, stereotypical vampire myths.. defunked. But the movie doesnt give that answer, you just have to know that vampires live among us and we dont know why.
I do like that they stuck with the inner monologue that Bella has, and its almost word for word from the book, you can hear everyone whispering the lines as they come..
Of course the famous cafeteria scene when you first meet the cullens.. the last person to show up.. Edward.. pretty much sounded like a Jonas Brothers Concert.. (im guessing Kevin lol) I think I was the only person to cheer for Alice.. (the brunette)
Shes hot. heheh.. at least shes not all emoed out like Edward or worse.. jasper haha.. "he always looks like he's in pain"
There is so much more to the movie detail-wise, they got her truck exactly as junky and muffler backfiring as the book, the wooden cross at the cullens house (which btw never gets mentioned that it was handcarved by Carlisle, and the whole "isnt this ironic" scene wasn't put in) I guess in retrospect it wasn't too important to the plot, just a funny point in the movie that vampires had a huge wooden cross in their home. lol.
One thing that I really wished they had kept in the movie was Bella's Theme.. Theres a point where Edward is comforting Bella and he is humming a tune she wasnt quite familiar with but thinks nothing of it then.. and later at the Cullens home Edward is playing the grand piano and playing a song that he wrote, and he told Bella it was inspired by Esme.. suddenly Bella felt insignificant.. until he starts playing the tune she heard him humming and he whispered to her.. this was inspired from you... (isnt that fucking precious? lol) It might just be the musical theme of it that made me think that was a great tie in to the last time you heard that song.. but they just show him serenading her on the piano.. so it didnt have the impact it had in the book.
So my final opinion.. if you read the book.. this movie is a sure 4.5 out of 5.. if you've never read the book this movie might lack in plot, you might not understand why things are the way they are, why shes so fascinated by Edward and the Cullens, and you don't quite get to build that relationship with the characters, they speed through it fairly quickly because just like the book no action happens til about the end.. and its literally a 5 minute climax.. Non-readers 3.5 maybe 4 at best..
Jayne is watching it again, maybe 2 more times.. i might watch it again.. just to see what else i missed..
