We decided on a dinner and a movie tonight. We wanted to try out Nico's Chophouse at the mall, and i must say.. it's not up to par with Donovan's or Ruth Chris, but it does provide a higher quality level than Outback or Black Angus.
One thing that I will note this place has bold flavors. Its weird how you hear that and think pepper or smokey, but its unusual, almost ALL of the flavors I tasted there were very defined.
Like Coke with a taste of lime.. same old coke with a hint of lime.. the lime is so buried beneath the coke that you can taste a faint flavor.. Nico's found a way to bring out almost all their flavors.. its actually pretty awesome.
I admit, most steak places fuck it up and give me a flavorless cut of beef, and I end up asking for the A1, which is a giant no-no in steakhouses. A real cut of beef shouldn't require any flavor aid such as A1.. The flavor is so distinct that every bite of my steak was full of flavor, and not so where the flavor accumulates and overpowers your palette. Bottom line.. it was damn good.
I went big this time and got the Porterhouse. Great choice. Jayne had the Salmon, and she let me taste and it too was full of flavor, we also had the Nico's potatoes which has proccuito all up in it. (DAMN!), I usually opt for a glass of cab or merlot to pair, but I just wasnt in the wine mood tonight.
After dinner we bought some tickets to Nick and Norah's Infinite playlist but before had we had time to kill so we went to Barnes and Noble.. Jayne picked up some books, and I decided to get her a new copy of Pride and Prejudice (her fave, her paperback was falling apart), but not just another paper back, a nice special edition. I found the Book hardback but decided to get the Complete Jane Austin book instead.
In return she bought me a book called "American Nerd". The book revolves around how people view nerds, socially single-ing out stereo-typical nerds, but in the end cant define a nerd. In this reporting/autobiographical book, he tries to best define a "nerd". Giving you the variation of nerd, and historical nerds over the years. I've only read a handful of pages, but its very VERY interesting shit. I'll probably post some thoughts when I finish it. At the moment I'm still reading Watchmen and Twilight, so this might have to be my shitter book.
After the book store we go to the movie. I must say I was expecting a bit more slapstick in the movie (probably thought it would be of the same par as Super Bad) but it had its moments. Its basically this love story and the one night that brought them together. The character relationships were great, its just there were so many characters that subplots were kind of rushed. You dont get to really feel for the characters like you should. Michael Cera plays his typical introvert with his moments of witty banter just like we've seen in Super Bad and Juno. It works for him. Norah pretty much speaks all the dialogue for the both of them, and that girl from Fool's Gold is pretty hot.. (if you like'em 10lbs and 4ft tall). Still the movie did tell its story well, and it entertains. I say rent it.
